Williams says she is ‘NOT retired’ as tennis legend teases shock comeback

SERENA WILLIAMS has revealed she is NOT retired and hinted at a return to tennis.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion broke down in tears at the US Open last month in what was believed to be the final match of her career.

But now the American, 41, has claimed she is yet to hang up her racket for good.

Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, as reported by TMZ, she said: “I am not retired.”

Williams was then quizzed on the likelihood of seeing her on the tennis court again.

To which she replied: “The chances are very high.”

But Williams jokingly added to the interviewer: “You can come to my house, I got a court. I got you.”

In August, the iconic tennis player said she was “evolving away” from tennis and claimed he US Open would be her final tournament.

It ended up coming in the third round as Ajla Tomljanovic beat her 7-5 6-7 (4) 6-1 in New York.

But Williams has admitted she is still coming to terms with the idea of not playing tennis.

She added: “I did wake up the other day and I went on the court and I was like, ‘Oh, for the first time in my life, I’m not playing for a competition and it felt really weird’.

“It was like the first day of the rest of my life, and so far, I am enjoying it. But I’m still trying to find that balance.”

Of Williams’ 23 Slam titles, she won the Australian Open and Wimbledon seven times each.

She also clinched the US Open on six occasions and the French Open three times.

Along with her older sister Venus, 42, she also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles.

And back in 1998, she claimed the mixed doubles crowns at Wimbledon and the US Open with Max Mirnyi.

At the Olympic Games, she also won three doubles gold medals and one singles gold – making her a four-time Olympic champion.
